The Last Lecture - Randy Pausch
I pulled up my news today (USA Today Article) and I was informed that Randy Pausch, author of The Last Lecture passed away today. But this post isn’t about the book, it’s about the man who in short time created change among thousands of people.
In the last year Pausch has become very well known for a lecture he gave at Carnegie Mellon University, after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I first heard about the lecture from a Pittsburgh, PA friend and once his book came out I’ve seen people reading it everywhere.
I haven’t read the book myself yet, but it’s created waves as people have watched the lecture or read the book and thought about life’s purpose, and why they are here.
Two of his points are below, as well as a video of him speaking. Check them out - and take time to think about your life. I have a lot to learn from a man who motivated, and challenged until his very last day.
- “Never underestimate the importance of having fun. I’m dying and I’m having fun. And I’m going to keep having fun every day because there’s no other way to play it.”
- “We can’t change the cards we’re dealt, just how we play the hand. If I’m not as depressed as you think I should be, I’m sorry to disappoint you.”
